Managing Director Cath McDowell interviewed by ABC Hobart Breakfast

Managing director at Howrah Plumbing, Cath McDowell, celebrates her Crystal Vision Award from the National Association of Women in Construction and says she hopes to see more female plumbers, and plumbing teachers, entering the industry.

The award recognises women who are shaping the construction industry in Tasmania. Cath has run Howrah Plumbing since taking over a business her family started in 1982, and has built it into a team of more than 50 people across Greater Hobart and Southern Tasmania.

Training has been central to that. Howrah Plumbing keeps around a dozen apprentices in its teams at any one time, and was named one of the country's top three small businesses for training at the 2024 Australian Training Awards.
