Large-diameter stormwater pipe in an open trench on a Hobart commercial site

Drain cleaning &
CCTV inspection.

Truck-mounted jetting and vacuum in one unit,
with CCTV crawler inspection and coded reporting.
Stormwater and sewer mains, pits, manholes and culverts.
Council, commercial and civil work across Southern Tasmania.

Howrah Plumbing cleans and inspects drains across Southern Tasmania using a truck-mounted combo unit and a CCTV crawler. High-pressure jetting cuts through roots, grease and silt while the vacuum lifts the waste into a sealed tank. The camera then confirms the line is clear and records the condition of the pipe.

Howrah Plumbing combo unit truck fitted for vacuum and jetting services

01 / How it works

Jetting and vacuum,
on one truck.

A jetting hose goes into the pipe and high-pressure water scours the walls, pushing debris back toward the access point. The vacuum boom lifts the loosened material out of the pit or manhole and into a sealed tank on the truck. Nothing is left behind on site, and the waste goes to a licensed disposal facility rather than into a waterway.

02 / What we clean

Pipes, pits and
everything under them.

One unit covers the whole network, from a blocked trunk main to a silted-up pit after a storm.

  • Stormwater & sewer lines

Blocked or slow mains across commercial sites and council networks.
  • Pits, sumps & manholes

Cleaned out and vacuumed dry, including deep pits reached by the boom.
  • Culverts & box drains

Large-section drainage cleared and left ready to inspect.
  • Storm & flood silt

Sediment, mud and debris pulled out after heavy Tasmanian weather.
  • Scheduled maintenance

Recurring programs for councils and commercial property managers.
  • Grease & root cutting

Nozzles that cut through grease, scale, sludge and tree roots.

The same unit handles domestic stormwater and sewer lines. For a blocked drain or toilet at a house, start with blocked drains and toilets, where most jobs are cleared without a combo unit on site.

03 / CCTV inspection

A camera that
goes the distance.

The crawler runs pipes from around 150 mm up, including main sewers, stormwater culverts and trunk lines, for hundreds of metres past the point where a push rod camera gives up. A pan, tilt and zoom head turns to look straight into joints, cracks and side connections, and a built-in sonde lets us mark the line's position and depth from the surface. Nobody has to enter the pipe to find out what is wrong with it.

04 / What it detects

What the
camera finds.

Condition data, not a guess. Each defect is located, graded and recorded.

  • Cracks, fractures & holes

Including collapsed and deformed sections of pipe.
  • Corrosion & wall integrity

Deterioration of the pipe wall, found before it fails.
  • Displaced or open joints

Where a line has moved, dropped or pulled apart.
  • Root intrusion

The most common cause of a recurring blockage in Hobart's older lines.
  • Infiltration & exfiltration

Groundwater leaking in, or sewage leaking out.
  • Faulty or unauthorised connections

Pipes tied into the wrong network.

05 / Reporting

Findings you can
act on.

Every inspection comes back as a report rather than a phone call. Video and stills, the location and depth of each defect, a condition grading, and what we recommend doing about it.

Defects are coded against recognised standards, so the report reads the same way to your engineer as it does to ours, and the data can go into a council or asset management system without being retyped. It also gives you a recorded baseline to compare against next time.

08 / Common questions

Drain cleaning and CCTV
questions, answered.

What is a combo unit?

A truck that carries high-pressure jetting and vacuum suction together. The jet breaks up the blockage and scours the pipe walls, the vacuum lifts the loosened waste straight into a sealed tank on board. One truck, one crew, and the waste leaves the site with us.

Do you clean council pits, manholes and culverts?

Yes. Pits, sumps, manholes, culverts and box drains, as one-off jobs or as a scheduled maintenance program. We work across Tasmanian local government as an LGAT preferred supplier.

How large a pipe can the CCTV crawler inspect?

The crawler is used on pipes from around 150 mm up, including main sewers, stormwater culverts and trunk lines. It covers runs of hundreds of metres, well past the point where a push rod camera stops being useful.

What is in a CCTV inspection report?

Video and still images, the location and depth of each defect, a condition grading and our recommendations. Defects are coded against recognised standards, so the report reads the same way to your engineer as it does to ours and the data can go straight into an asset management system.

Can you clean and inspect on the same visit?

Usually, yes. A camera run before cleaning shows what is actually in the line, and a second run afterwards confirms the job is done and records the condition of the pipe. On a planned maintenance program that before-and-after pair becomes your baseline for next time.

Do you do residential drain cleaning as well?

Yes, the same unit handles domestic stormwater and sewer lines. If it is a blocked drain or toilet at a house, start with our blocked drains and toilets page instead, since most household blockages are cleared without needing a combo unit on site.
