01 / Approved provider
TasWater
panel-approved.
Connecting to the water or sewer network isn't work anyone can do. TasWater maintains a panel of approved service providers, and Howrah Plumbing is on it. For you that means the connection is done by a contractor TasWater already recognises, which removes a whole category of delay from the front of your project.
Talk to us about a connection02 / The process
How a new
connection works.
Most people meet this process once. Here's the shape of it.
- 01
Talk to us first
Before you apply. What's available at your block changes what's possible.
- 02
Site and network assessment
Where the mains are, what the property needs, whether it's a standard connection.
- 03
Application and approvals
We prepare and lodge the TasWater application and handle council requirements.
- 04
Excavation and connection
Dug, connected and tested, using vacuum excavation where there are services nearby.
- 05
Sign-off
Compliance documentation and handover.
03 / Connection types
What we
connect.
-
New homes
Water and sewer connections for new builds on serviced blocks. -
Subdivisions & developments
Multiple connections, coordinated with the build program. -
Non-standard connections
Difficult sites, long runs and connections that don't fit the template. -
Civil infrastructure
Larger network and infrastructure works.
04 / Trade clients
For builders and
developers.
Connections sit on the critical path. If the approval stalls, everything behind it stalls with it.
We manage the application, the network side and the physical connection as one package, with a project team who'll tell you where it actually is rather than where it should be.

06 / Common questions
Connection
questions, answered.
How do I get water connected to a new property?
The connection has to be made by a TasWater-approved provider, and an application goes to TasWater before any work happens. We handle the application and the connection. Talk to us before you apply, what's available at your block affects what you can do.
Do I apply to TasWater myself, or do you?
We can prepare and lodge it for you. Most people find that easier than working out which application applies to their situation.
What's a non-standard connection?
Anything that doesn't fit the usual pattern: a long run to the main, difficult ground, a site where the connection point isn't where you'd expect. They need more design work up front, which is why it's worth asking early.
How long does a new connection take?
The physical work is usually short. The approval process sets the timeline, which is why we start it as early as possible. We'll give you a realistic picture once we've seen the site.
Can you connect a property that's on a septic system?
If mains sewer is available at the property, yes, including decommissioning the old system. If it isn't, an on-site wastewater system is the alternative.
Do you do connections for subdivisions and developments?
Yes. Multiple connections, coordinated with your build program, with the approvals managed as one package.
